Forget Milan, Paris and London – Sligo is the Latest Place to be in Vogue, Literally

Breathtaking beauty, literary legends, live music and fish dishes that make the best of the catch of day – just some of the reasons why British Vogue, the leading women’s lifestyle magazine, recommends taking a trip to Sligo this summer.

The article titled ‘Where The Vogue Editors Are Holidaying This Summer‘ championed Vogue’s European holiday destinations of choice, forgoing far-flung places.

Their influential picks included chic locations Sant Llorenc Valley and Formentera in Ibiza, Amalfi and Puglia in Italy, Marbella, The Cote d’Azur and the Greek Hydra and Spetses islands. But it was Ireland’s county Sligo that topped the list.

The GLasshouse Sligo

Vogue Daily Editor Scarlett Conlon suggested staying at the Glasshouse Hotel in the centre of the Sligo town, the historic Castle Dargan, or opting for an Airbnb with a mix of traditional and contemporary options to choose from.

Pudding Row

When not discovering the finite beaches and lakes “ready for picnicking, paddling and fishing”, Vogue recommends dining at Pudding Row, Easkey, for “homemade breads, cakes and wholesome traditional lunches,” and Montmarte in the city centre for fine-dining French cuisine.

But the guide concedes that you’ll have an equally inviting experience by arriving unannounced at any one of the many traditional pubs that offer a variety of homemade “rustic” dishes – recommending to opt for a fish dish to make the most of the catch of the day.

Hargadons

Hargadon Bros on O’Connell Street got a special mention for its renowned live music.

Of course the beauty bible sought out the best in regional luxury suggesting a trip to the seaweed baths at the increasingly popular Voya in Strandhill.

Speaking on the inclusion in the pretigious women’s lifestyle magazine Niall Gibbons, CEO of Tourism Ireland, said:

“Publicity is a really powerful tool in marketing the island of Ireland overseas, so the inclusion of Sligo as a destination of choice in Vogue UK is good news indeed. This type of positive exposure is invaluable – reminding potential British holidaymakers about the many things to see and do in Sligo and helping to position Ireland as a highly desirable and fashionable place to visit on holiday.”
