Strawberries are low in fat and calories, but high in fibre and vitamins, minerals and nutrients that are essential for optimal health. Consuming strawberries can help boost immune system and prevent inflammation, aging, cancer and neurological diseases.
When choosing strawberries, ripe and sweet strawberries should have a shiny, red colour with a green fresh cap. Avoid shrivelled, brown caps and bruised, mushy fruits. Strawberries are very versatile and can be pickled, made in to jam, used in various baked goods, drinks, soups, sauces, garnishes and paired with fish, chicken and other savoury ingredients.
When it comes to cooking, you can enhance the flavour in strawberries by soaking them in sweet and acidic juices from other fruits like oranges or passion fruits. This will deepen the taste and give them an aromatic boost!
