Ireland’s Best Chefs Join The Line-Up For This Year’s Strandhill Food Festival

This October, the Strandhill Food Festival returns for its second year from Saturday 6th to Sunday 7th. Held in the unique venue of Sligo Airport, it is set to be the highlight of the month.

Attendees will have the chance to see some of Ireland’s top chefs in action, with live food demonstrations and much more. Michelin star chef Derry Clarke will be headlining the stage on Saturday, while star of The Restaurant, Gary O’Hanlon, will be headlining on Sunday.

The festival will showcase the best of up-and-coming food producers, with over 30 food stalls available. Whet your appetite with Ireland’s most delicious street food vendors, such as Kimcimera, The Market Kitchen, Shake Poke and Pacheco Venezuelan Street Food.

For craft beer lovers, a brand new Craft Beer Bar will be serving up delicious Irish craft beers as well as speciality gins.

Tickets for the festival start at just €6 per person with free entry for children under 16. The younger guests will be kept well entertained with lots of events taking place over the weekend, including storytelling sessions and shows from Little Gem Puppets.

Last year, the festival attracted over 3000 visitors and this year they expect to welcome up to 5000 visitors across the weekend. The line-up for this year is better than ever with artisan food markets, live cookery demonstrations, children’s entertainment and a live music stage.

Prannie Rhatigan, author of Irish Seaweed Kitchen, will also be joining in on the live cookery demos throughout the weekend. As well as Carolanne Rushe, owner and chef of Sweet Beat Cafe, Myles Lamberth from Shells Café and Gaby Wieland, wild herb and foraging expert from The Organic Centre and Neantóg Farm.

The Strandhill People’s Market stalls will also be serving up tasty treats over the two days including Blacksheep Bakery, Sweet Beat Cafe, The Sushi Sisters, Driftwood Coffee Cart, La Cabana, Joy Kitchen.

Allan Mulrooney, festival co-ordinator, commented: “We are excited to announce the return of the Strandhill Food Festival for a second year. We had such a strong response to the Festival in 2017, and it’s such a great way to wrap up another successful summer season here in Strandhill.”

He added: “With an extra day added, we now have a bigger programme for all to enjoy, and are delighted about the addition of Derry Clarke and Gary O’Hanlon this year.”
