SuperValu Food Academy is a joint initiative between SuperValu, Bord Bia, the network of Local Enterprise Offices and was established to support early-stage Irish food businesses.
Food Academy is celebrating five years championing artisan Irish food businesses, during which it has helped numerous producers get off the ground and on to SuperValu shelves. To mark this milestone, Hector travelled around the country to meet the people behind the produce and celebrate the progress they have made since taking part in Food Academy.
Hector’s first stop is Celbridge, where he visits Fitness Food HQ, which was set up in 2017 by David Carey, a 26 year old award winning young entrepreneur. David is an honours graduate of Sport Science & Health from Dublin City University and was voted one of Ireland’s Top Young Entrepreneurs.
Fitness Food HQ is focused on bringing innovative food & drink products to the mainstream retail market. All products are produced at Fitness Food HQ, which is a brand new state of the art manufacturing and distribution facility in Co.Kildare. Watch as Hector goes behind the scenes and even suits up to help with the manufacturing line.
Speaking on the incredible opportunities afforded to him as a member of Food Academy, Carey said: “SuperValu has been an amazing support from the beginning of our journey. Offering us listings in our local region initially before scaling us up to regional & national level. The SuperValu Food Academy programs offer invaluable mentoring from industry experts.”
As more and more consumers look towards embracing healthier lifestyles, Fitness Food HQ meets this demand with healthy snacks, porridges and protein fortified drinks. With a strong online brand selling healthy meals that are delivered fresh to your door nationwide, Fitness Food HQ has taken off thanks to the Food Academy, and is sure to go from strength to strength in the coming months.
