Ten Stands To Watch and an Unmissable Beer from Each at the Irish Craft Beer Festival

Starting today 8th of September and until this Saturday evening, the RDS is hosting the Irish Craft Beer Festival, Ireland’s largest celebration of craft brewing.

With over 300 beers to taste, navigating through the festival properly calls for a good while (well, someone has to do it!). Ciders, spirits, cocktails and artisan food add to the variety as well, bringing in lots of Irish producers worth discovering.

To help you get started, we have selected out ten favourite stands and from each, a special beer that has caught our attention. Be sure to drop by these when you’re at the festival, we are sure you’ll enjoy it greatly!

1. O’HARA’S

Their new Festhalten Hefeweizen. German style with 5% ABV and an Irish palate in mind, rich, fruity and medium body. It’s a small batch so it will be available only in selected bars so, just in case, try it now at the RDS!

2. HOPE BREWERY

Limited Edition Session Ale. Crisp, refreshing and ideal for a warm day or a long evening of beer enjoying. A good example of a summery session ale, which is only available while stocks last (and they won’t last long).

3. BLACK DONKEY

Beyond RyePA, 4.8% ABV. Rich, toasted and with a pleasant hoppy character. The brewers gave us an insider’s tip: on Saturday morning they’ll have a special version of their popular Sheep Stealer, with blackberries, don’t miss it.

4. WICKLOW WOLF

American Amber, a beautifully balanced ale, golden and with a mix of honey, peach and almond aromas. It’s already a classic, and for good reason.

5. THE WHITE HAG BREWERY

Niamg Chinn Oir Belgian Pale Ale, it’s so smooth that even with a solid 6,8% it feels friendly on the palate and easy to drink. Very fruit dominated and with low bitterness, it’s a welcomed change among the super hoppy.

6. STATION WORKS

Experimental Brew, a Bourbon barrel aged chocolate stout with just the perfect amount of chocolate aromas and a creamy, malty character. Also, a very small batch so don’t miss a chance to be one of the few lucky ones to taste it.

7. GALWAY HOOKER

Galway Hooker Double IPA, a strong but elegant one, great for sipping and discovering what its rich, golden body has to offer. Three different types of American hops provide a great structure, and it has lovely aromas of tropical fruit and apricot.

8. SULLIVAN’S

Maltings Red Ale, a newly launched ale made in Kilkenny. It offers a smooth and toasty profile, with coffee beans and hazelnut on the palate and a luscious body.

9. METALMAN

Ginger Blonde Beer, a blonde ale infused with ginger, refreshing, with only 4.3% ABV but lots of flavour. The ginger on it feels well integrated and mild, just the right amount to make it enjoyable. Surely something different not to be missed!

10. EIGHT DEGREES BREWING

Supernova Double IPA with 8%. This is a force to reckon with, and as its name suggests, it offers an explosion of flavours. Passion fruit, apricot and hops join for a drink that will wake your senses.
