The Sea and the Grape – Seafood & Wine Tasting Menu at The Cliff Townhouse
The Cliff Townhouse proudly showcases the bounty of the sea with chef Sean Smith renowned for creating both simple and complex dishes based on Ireland’s finest seafood. On Wednesday October 21st, The Cliff Townhouse will host a special tasting evening, matching the finest fruits of the sea with the fruits of the labours of some of the world’s most interesting vineyards. A 7-course tasting menu, exclusively focused on some of this country’s most superb seafood, these smart and delicious dishes have been paired with an array of wines that complement and expand on the flavours of each dish.
The first floor private dining room at The Cliff Townhouse is a handsome space, with three floor-to-ceiling double windows which open up onto the pretty ironwork balcony with views across the Green. A space full of character and atmosphere, during the day the room is bright with daylight, and then gilt wall sconces and a dramatic chandelier create a sophisticated glow in the evening.
This characterful space makes a lovely backdrop to an entertaining and informative tasting seafood and wine evening, beginning with oysters, followed by lobster bisque, scallops with ox tongue, turbot, pork with langoustines and chocolate fondant.
Featuring wines such as a crisply saline Domaine de la Louvetrie, Muscadet sur Lie, an unoaked and weighty Guerinda La Blanca Chardonnay from Navarra, Spain, a richly honeysuckle-flavoured Australian Tahbilk Marsanne, a biodynamic Pouilly-Fuissé from Domaine Nicolas Maillet, the bright fruit flavours of a Domaine des Terres Dorées, Côte de Brouilly and a sweet dessert wine made with the same grapes as Amarone, a Stefano Accordini Recioto della Valpolicella Classico, this menu is an accomplished set of dishes matched by an equally polished selection of wines, carefully selected to enhance and elaborate on the wealth of flavours on every plate.
The 7-course tasting dinner in the First Floor Dining Room of The Cliff Townhouse, which begins at 7.30 p.m. on Wednesday, 21st October with an oyster presentation and tasting by Chef Sean Smith, costs €75 per person with matching wines, tea or coffee and petits fours.
