The Search for Euro-Toques Young Chef of the Year 2016 Begins

Are you a talented chef, aged between 18 and 26? Do you have creativity, flair and passion for food? Do you have the drive and determination to push yourself through an intense 3 months of competition? Then, knives at the ready, from today you can enter Euro-Toques Ireland Young Chef of the Year 2016, in association with La Rousse Foods.

In a quest for Ireland’s best new talent, the country’s premier culinary competition makes the young chefs dig deep creatively. First in writing, with a written entry comprising a recipe and an explanation of your concept and thought process, then by interview, and finally in the kitchen with two separate skills tests: the first assessing general competency, the second assessing everything.

In the final skill test, following a specific theme the finalists cook off two courses before a panel of expert judges. Last year top chef Claire Smyth joined the panel of Irish chefs, and this year that panel includes special guest judge Nathan Outlaw, 2 Star chef-patron of Restaurant Nathan Outlaw, Port Isaac, Cornwall.

While the competition may be tough the benefits for the ultimate victor are more than worth it. Last year’s winner, Ruth Lappin, Chef de Partie at Restaurant Patrick Guilbaud, earned herself the chance do a stage in the 3 Michelin star Restaurant Gordon Ramsay, under the guidance of Claire Smyth.

Most notably, Young Chef of the Year Winner 2013, Mark Moriarty, went on to win S. Pelligrino UK & Ireland Young Chef of the Year, and World Young Chef of the Year 2015.

The competition opens for entries on Tuesday 6th September 2016, and closes on Wednesday 22nd September at 12 noon. Following a social media entry stage, a written stage and an interview stage, 10-12 semi-finalists will be selected to go on to compete in the first culinary skills test. At this stage the judges will select the five finalists who will battle it out in a final culinary skills test.
