Over her 40 year history, Hello Kitty, Japan’s most loved cartoon character, has put her face to themed cafes, a travelling Hello Kitty Cafe Truck that serves mini cakes and macaroons, candies, snacks, pastries, noodles and more. Now she’s all grown up she is indulging her favourite tipple and adorning wine bottles.
Italian winery Torti Wines has teamed up with Sanrio, the Japanese company behind Hello Kitty, to produce a range in a number of varietals. Using a blend of hand-picked Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes they have created a collection of wonderfully named drinks including ‘Sweet Pink’ Rosé sparkling wine, Cupido’ sparkling white, ‘Charmy’, a white wine, and a red named ‘Lady’.
The Torti family has reportedly been reserving grapes for this project since 2007 for sale in the European and Asian markets. Luckily for (adult) Hello Kitty fans, the range is not a limited-edition item and there are plans to produce more as well as expanding distribution. But, for now, the online retailer linked to the vineyard is out of stock.
