The Taste Gift Guide For Wine Lovers

It’s that time of year again and each year I am asked what people should buy for the wine lover in their life. Possibly tricky given the huge array of styles around. Below I have come up with a few suggestions that should be ideal for most wine aficionados, if not do send them on to me.

John Wilsons Guide to 2016 €12

A great guide to wines for 2016, broken down to give you all the pertinent information you will need with prices, stockist and food matching.  A perfect stocking filler. Available from good retailers as well as O’Brien’s Wines Mitchells & sons and The Corkscrew.

Corkcicle Air Wine Cooler And Aerator €20

A handy item for anyone who enjoys a glass of white. Keep it in the freezer and when needed pop it into you bottle to help chill your wine. Available from Brown Thomas.

Glassware from €30

As a wine lover I do like to have great glassware for my wine but enviably glasses get broken which can become costly, so when someone gifts me some nice glasses I’m delighted. If possible try to go for Riedel or Spiegelau, both ranges are elegant and light weight. Available from Mitchells & sons and Febvre. Check out my recent review from a Riedel masterclass here.

Red Wine Aerator €40

This is an absolute must for any red wine fan. It essentially does the job of a decanter but allowing you to aerate a glass instead of the whole bottle. Available from Brown Thomas & The Corkscrew.

Riedel Decanters from €35

Always a necessity for a wine lover and the hand-blown range from Riedel are perfect, lightweight and they look good. And with Mitchells sale now on you can be guaranteed a great deal. Prices start at €35.

Available from Mitchells’ & Sons.

Champagne

Almost any champagne will be appreciated, as it is a little decadent and not enjoyed enough. And one you cannot go wrong with would be Beaumont des Crayères Grande Réserve NV Champagne €36.99 from O’Brien’s Wines. Or check out any one my New Year’s Bubbles list.

Vintage Port

There is no better time to give a bottle of port. Always a treat which can be sipped over the festive period. It is a fortified lush red wine. One of my favourites would be Grahams Port Vintage. Available from O’Brien’s Wines.

Coravin €299

They latest must have gadget for wine lovers. It is easy to use and gives the wine lover access to their entire collection a glass at a time. The sharp needle seals the cork as you remove it with the remaining wine will continue to age naturally. Available from O’Brien’s Wines and Mitchells & Sons.

Wine fridges – Eurocaves

A pricey Item but also the ultimate gift if you have the budget. Perfect for storing your wine at the perfect temperature. Available directly from Febvre Wines.
