TheTaste is Calling on People to Support a Change in Altitude Towards Mental Health

TheTaste will be celebrating its 4th Birthday on Monday 15th October and this year, we think it’s time to give back. With the growing issue of Mental Health, we are organising some of Ireland’s Top Culinary Stars, along with selected media, to go into the Altitude Chamber. Our mission is to burn 10,000 Calories in One Hour to generate a €10,000 donation to Pieta House and raise the acceptance of people suffering with mental health.

To support this event and make a donation, please visit our idonate page.

The Altitude Zone based on the Belgard Road, has kindly provided its specialised state of the art facilities. This heated chamber will see the top chefs work together as a team to collectively burn off 10,000 calories. Each chef’s progress will be displayed on screen and there will be a personal trainer present to push the team towards the target. Well used to the high temperatures of the kitchen, the chefs will be highly suited to the task and well up to the challenge, especially as it’s for such a good cause.

All €10,000 of proceeds raised from the Altitude session will be donated to Pieta House.

Taking part in this exciting charity event is Derry Clarke, Ross Lewis, Kevin Hui, Paul Hynes, Stephen Toman, Edward Hayden, Keith Boyle, Garry O’Hanlon, Gareth Mullins,  Paul Kelly, Gavin McDonagh, Andy McFadden, Philip Roe, Oliver Dunne, Aoife Noonan, Doug Leddin, Paul Philips, Glen Wheeler, Dan Harringan and Crossy (FM104).

Speaking at the launch of next month’s charity event, TheTaste MD Keith Mahon said:

I don’t think there’s any family in Ireland that hasn’t been touched by mental health issues and this is especially true in the hospitality industry. With the pressurised working environment, a lot of our colleagues have experienced dark days.

He added: “I’m so proud of the chefs who have come together to raise awareness of these issues in our industry and to push their own bodies to the limit.

In 2006, Pieta House opened its doors in Lucan, County Dublin and since that day we have seen and helped over 30,000 people in suicidal distress or engaging in self-harm, and established twelve subsequent centres across Ireland.

From humble beginnings, Pieta House has grown to almost 270 therapists and administration staff, and the demand for our service hasn’t let up. In 2016 alone, almost 6,000 people came through our doors suffering from suicidal ideation and/or engaging in self-harm, or to avail of suicide bereavement counselling.
