We are truly spoiled with breathtaking scenery here in Ireland and Ireland’s Ancient East is dotted with must-visit sights for summer days out. In the heart of the (sometimes!) sunny south east, the Hook Peninsula is home to Ireland’s oldest intact working light house which juts out into the Celtic sea, offering unrivaled views of the Wexford coast. The Hook Lighthouse has just launched a Sunset Tour experience which sounds like the perfect way to spend a summer’s evening.
The brand new Sunset Tour experience offers visitors the opportunity to take a guided tour up the 115 steps of the medieval tower and immerse themselves in the rich history of the site. See it’s heritage come to life with life sized figures of the Monk who first established the beacon at the site in the 5th century followed by the Knight who built the tower; William Marshal, no less than 800 years ago.
Stepping out on to the top floor outdoor balcony, visitors will be stunned as they take in the 360 degree sweeping views of the shoreline. To top off this visual feast, visitors will enjoy Prosecco and Irish Mead along with Ballyhack smokehouse smoked salmon on homemade brown bread, scrumptious canapés and delicious homemade mini desserts in the light house watch room as the sun goes down.
The Hook Lighthouse Manager Ann Waters explains: “Watching the sun go down at the tip of the Hook Peninsula is a memorable experience. The lighthouse watch-room offers spectacular panoramic views and enjoying this vista of the sunset at the end of the day is something we have enjoyed at the lighthouse for many years. We are delighted to now offer this as a shared experience to visitors with the added flavour of some local and Irish food produce.”
The Sunset Tour Experience will be on offer at 8pm on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays until the end of September 2017. General guided tours are on offer 7 days a week at Hook Lighthouse.
The sunset tours will only operate at a minimum of 12 persons or a maximum of 24. Pre-booking is essential and can be done so by emailing Cathy on email@example.com or calling 051 397055. For more information visit www.hookheritage.ie.
