Last Friday 5th of May, we attended the much anticipated O’Briens Spring Wine Fair Dublin, where over 50 winemakers presented their wines to more than 1,000 guests in the spacious surroundings of the Printworks, within Dublin Castle.
While choosing only three to recommend is quite a challenge, the bottles below stood out and we’d love to share them with you…
La Piuma Pecorino Terre Chieti IGT 2015
Terre di Chieti, Italy – 12.5% ABV
€8.95 – Available at O’Briens Wine
Central Italy’s Abruzzo hosts this sub-region, in which ancient variety Pecorino comes to life in a cheerful and refreshing white wine. Notes of crisp nectarine, limoncello and white flowers come together in this light bodied, summer-loving beauty.
Pair with seafood risotto, grilled vegetables or lightly seasoned chicken.
Seguin-Manuel Savigny-les-Beaune Lavieres 1er Cru 2014
Burgundy, France – 13% ABV
€37 – Available at O’Briens Wine
Burgundian Pinot Noir becomes a wine to remember in the hands of Domaine Seguin-Manuel. A firm and lean red, with intense aromas of juicy red cherry and strawberry combined beautifully with a subtle touch of oak which provides it with toast and sweet spice melodies in the background. Long finish and generous in every way.
One premium red that will please impatient wine lovers and reward those who save it for a couple of years.
Rabl Riesling Trockenbeerenauslese
Austria – 13% ABV
€48 – Available at O’Briens Wine
A gorgeous and intensely sweet wine that is pure Riesling gold. Voluptuous and luscious, it regales you with aromas of acacia honey, orange blossom and dried apricots balanced by a high acidity that gives it structure.
A premium dessert wine, ideal to end a special meal on a high note.
