Alice Through the Looking Glass, the second installment of Disney’s Alice in Wonderland series is coming to Irish cinemas on May 27th. Inspired by the visual sensations in the film, the pastry team at The Shelbourne Hotel have created a stunning ‘Wonderland Afternoon Tea‘.
Sitting on the stand alongside classic favourites of dainty sandwiches and homemade scones are quirky Wonderland treats including an edible Pocket Watch which is actually a salted caramel macaron. Other Alice-themed sweet treats include a Mushroom Mess, a delectable blend of lemon curd, crème chantilly, mixed berry compote and meringue; a Queen of Hearts, which is a vanilla yoghurt mousse with a raspberry and passion fruit centre and a substance with an ominous label saying “Drink me” – which thankfully turns out to be a Kir Royale!
Afternoon tea at The Shelbourne has been a beloved tradition of locals and guests for generations. With a specially tailored kids menu, the whole family can enjoy this special Wonderland tea.
Younger guests will enjoy a Mushroom Meringue (no caterpillars on this mushroom!), a Queen of Hearts strawberry shortbread and strawberry jam surprise, a Cheshire Cat which is a swirly blend of blackberry and strawberry mousse, and a pair of mysteries marked “Eat Me” and “Drink Me” which turn out to be a mango and passion fruit macaroon and a chocolate raspberry milk.
Available now, the Wonderland Afternoon Tea is on offer at The Shelbourne until 4th September, and 24 hours’ booking notice is essential.
Wonderland Afternoon Tea is available daily at The Shelbourne for €45pp for Classic Afternoon Tea and €57pp for Champagne Afternoon Tea, and the Kids Afternoon Tea is €20 per child.
