The Pearse Lyons Distillery has just announced that it will open its doors to the public this Saturday 26th of August. Located in the heart of The Liberties in Dublin 8, this state of the art distillery and visitor centre is the result of a €20 million investment and it is expected to be an important tourist attraction and job generator in the area, known for its rich brewing and distilling tradition.
“We are extremely excited because after years of hard work, we can finally announce our official opening date!” reads an announcement on their Facebook page.
Visitors will be welcomed from 10:00 am this coming Saturday and they’ll be able to join their tour to discover the stories behind the distinctive building and about the way their whiskey collection is produced. After Saturday, the distillery will open daily.
“Join us to sample our various blends and hear about all the curious characters associated with St. James. We can’t wait to offer the people of Dublin and beyond somewhere new to learn about the city’s history while finding all about its newest Irish whiskeys”, they say.
The former church in which the distillery was built was acquired by Pearse and Deirdre Lyons in 2013. Deirdre, director of corporate image and design, pointed out recently during a press preview of the venue that Pearse’s family has strong ties to the area. Originally from Dublin, he holds a Ph.D. in yeast fermentation and was the first Irishman to receive a formal degree in brewing and distilling from the British School of Malting and Brewing.
