While we are no strangers to the concept of Champagne cocktails, legendary Champagne house Veuve Clicquot has just taken the idea to the next level with the launch of two new bubblies meant to be blended and served over ice.
The creations, named Clicquot Rich and Rich Rosé, are inspired in the world of mixology and contain a higher level of sugar compared to the brand’s classic non-vintage bottle. The 245 year old Champagne house is encouraging people to enjoy them as they would with a liquor and to mix them with fruits and other ingredients to craft sophisticated fizzy cocktails.
As explained in Veuve Clicquot’s website, “wines that were blended for greater sweetness were customarily described as rich.” They refer to the innovation as a “cocktail spirit” and explain that “the signature notes of the wine are magnified by the presence of selected ingredients: pineapple, grapefruit zest, cucumber, celery, peppers or tea, all on the rocks.”
They’ve featured a series of recipes to inspire consumers, but the basic steps are just as follows:
1) Place ice cubes in a large wine glass.
2) Add one of the recommended ingredients.
3) Finish with chilled Veuve Clicquot Rich.
The launch is perfectly timed as this summer one of the strongest trends in drinks are spritzers and lighter, fizzy cocktails. The Champagnes are too sweet to enjoy on their own, but once mixed with the right ingredients, they really come to life.
