Celebrate the Weekend with These Five Fantastic Food and Drinks Events

The weekend is here and with it the food and drink rituals we’ve been waiting all week to savour.

But in between brunch, cheeky takeaways, and drinks with friends there are a host of foodie events that will satisfy every craving.

Here are our picks of the five food and drink events taking place across the country this weekend, September 16th – 17th.

OKTOBERFEST DUBLIN

This year’s Oktoberfest Dublin is getting closer and beer lovers are in for a treat as the local rendition of the world-famous festival promises to be a two week long celebration of beer, food and Bavarian tradition. Starting on September the 14th and until the 1st of October, Oktoberfest Dublin will take place in George’s Dock and it will gather a taste of all you’ll find in the huge festivity in Munich.

BOTTOMLESS PIZZA SUNDAY AT THE JAR

Camden Street’s The Jar are launching their Bottomless Pizza Sundays this weekend, so if you’re tired, hungover or just in need of a good pizza, this Dublin bar will complete your weekend. Launching this Sunday, September 17th, The Jar will have two dining options available. For €10 per person, you can enjoy a pizza and a glass of house wine or beer. To make your experience truly memorable, devour a bottomless pizza and a glass of house wine or a beer for just €15 per person.

DAY TRIP TO MOYHILL FARM WITH THE FUMBALLY STABLES

Moyhill CSA, run by former pro surfers Matt Smith and Mitch Corbett, have just launched an ambitious crowdfunding campaign in West Clare, looking for 300k in order to buy 60 acres of land to grow their community farm. Visit the farm on Sunday 17th September as part of The Fumbaly Stables EAT:ITH series where you’ll have lunch and talk about community, growing food and sustainability, with €15 of every ticket will be donated to the campaign. On Saturday 16th September The Stables also invites you to learn how to pickle and ferment in a class that is specifically tailored for both kids and adults.

A TASTE OF WEST CORK FESTIVAL

A Taste of West Cork comes to an end this weekend, head south and make the most of the bounty of food events taking place. On Saturday 16th you can learn about hand-milking at the market and then head to Urru for a guided milk tasting!

Then spend a Night in the Museum with Con McLoughlin a very special occasion to dine in the newly opened Michael Collins museum in the house the Big Man himself once lived. Con McLoughlin from the celebrated Lettercollum Kitchen Project will present a five-course menu using authentic recipes of contemporary dishes for the time – all with Lettercollum’s signature modern twist.

On Sunday join Carmel Somers of Good Things restaurant in Skibbereen to visit Heir Island for a relaxed luncheon and wine. Check out the full festival programme at www.atasteofwestcork.com.

VEGINITY MELBOURNE WEEKEND

Get a taste of Melbourne’s funky food scene this weekend at Vegnity, a plant based street food truck operates on a permanent basis from inside a warehouse on a lane way off Richmond street South. Inspired by chef Mark Senn’s hometown, this weekend’s special Melbourne Menu features inventive vegan dishes like Black Ash Pasta, with edamame, heirloom tomato and ginger confit. Veginity is open Thursday to Saturday from 5-10 pm and it’s BYOB to boot – cheers to the weekend!
