Wetherspoon to Open a Two-Storey Pub in a Former Church in Dublin’s City Centre

J D Wetherspoon has received the green light for its plans to build a two-storey pub on Lower Abbey Street. The new pub would see two vacant buildings transformed, including a former Baptist Church and a former Pertmanent TSB branch.

The main building was built in 1839, which caused initial concerns over its conservation. Neighbours in the area also raised concerns over noise levels. However, the chain has pointed out that the bar won’t have a late licence.

It has been reported that Wetherspoon paid €3 million for both buildings. The pub is expected to have a floor area of 955 sq metres, including a beer garden and a roof terrace.

It is also estimated that the new establishment will create between 40 to 50 jobs.
