Waterford Will be Home to a Winter Wonderland for Winterval Festival

Winterval, Ireland’s largest Christmas festival, will be hosting over sixty events across Waterford city in the lead up to Christmas. Taking place from November 17th to December 23rd, Winterval will host a mix of free and ticketed events that will transform Waterford city into a Winter Wonderland. Some brand new attractions at this year’s festival include 12 Days of Christmas and Enchanted Christmas, an exciting Santa experience at the Old Postal Sorting Centre.

The festival will be kicking off on the 17th of November, with a visit from Mr.Claus himself and the International Rose of Tralee, Kirsten Mate Maher. The two special guests will be turning on the lights at John Roberts Square from 4.00pm.

The City of Dublin Chamber Orchestra and the Notable Works Chorus will be performing Handel’s Messiah at St.John’s Church and there will be a Lions Club Christmas Carol Service at the Cathedral of the Most Holy Trinity.

Throughout Winterval, the Waterford Rotary Club Memorial Christmas Tree Appeal will be taking place in support of Waterford Hospice and on Georges Court Shopping Centre, there will be the Cartamundi Giving Tree. For every homemade decoration hung on the tree, Cartmundi, Waterford’s leading games manufacturer, will donate a toy to the St Vincent de Paul.

There will be free performances at The Applemarket from the Waterford Academy of Music and Arts, as well as a giant post box for the little ones to send their letter to Santa.

Tommie Ryan, the newly appointed Winterval Festival Director said: “We’re delighted to present the new jam-packed programme for the seventh annual Winterval festival. Along with new attractions, we welcome back some family favourites such as Winterval Illuminates, the Christmas light show on Cathedral Square.”

Continuing on Tommie said: “We have set out this year to acknowledge and celebrate what makes Christmas truly special — the creation of unforgettable memories with plenty of festive magic.”
