24 Hours in Mayo – Restaurants, Bars and Hotels

Worth visiting at any time of the year thanks to its rugged coastline and rich variety of attractions, Mayo really is the heartbeat of the Wild Atlantic Way.

With all the scenic walks on offer, odds are you’re going to be feeling quite ravenous throughout your stay in the west.

Luckily, Mayo is home to a fabulous array of culinary delights, so keep reading to discover the best places to eat, drink and sleep.

BREAKFAST

Café Rua

Using ingredients found in their shop, Café Rua features products from their suppliers, as well as produce from their own bakery. Breakfast is served until 11.30am and includes French toast, fry-ups, granola, porridge and more. Café Rua also serves lunch and a special kids menu for youngsters.

Heffernan’s Fine Foods

Serving breakfast until 12 noon, Heffernan’s Fine Foods in Ballina is the place to go for a hearty breakfast selection. Using produce from Heffernan’s butchers, breakfast diners can devour a great selection of meaty breakfasts and also some sweet buttermilk pancakes with maple syrup and crisp streaky bacon.

Sol Rio

Sol Rio Restaurant, situated in the heart of Westport, offers homemade, locally sourced food to suit all taste buds, from families to young couples and business clientele. Kelly’s Kitchen

A tasty menu is served throughout the day, with options including a duo of spicy cod and salmon , jumbo pork and sausages. Arriving hungry is encouraged, as you certainly won’t leave that way.

Since opening in 2011, The Blue Bicycle Tearooms has been a popular dining spot for weary travellers. With its old-world feel, this charming 17th century Newport tearoom prides itself on providing freshly baked and locally sourced produce.

The Tavern Bar and Restaurant

Located just a 10-minute walk from Westport Town, The Tavern Bar and Restaurant is absolutely worth a visit. With its range of craft beers and ciders, along with a tempting wine list and whiskey tasting menu, you’ll likely find your desired beverage at The Tavern, which has been included in Michelin’s “Eating Out in Pubs” guide.
