5 Pancake & Drink Pairings to Take Pancake Tuesday to the Next Level

Pancakes are a treat on their own merit, but as any food lover knows, getting the right drink to pair with a dish will enhance the experience and increase the enjoyment of both the meal and the beverage. With that in mind, here are five suggestions for pancakes and drinks pairings depending on your style and toppings.

BANANA PANCAKES + MIMOSA

If you are enjoying rich, thick, banana pancakes, a Mimosa will offer a lovely contrast. This classic brunch cocktail will bring some freshness and keep in tune with the fruity tone. To make one, simply pour sparkling wine on a flute glass and top with freshly squeezed orange juice. Depending on your taste, you can adjust, but we like it two thirds bubbly, one third OJ.

SAVOURY BACON PANCAKES + OLD FASHIONED

Pancakes on the savoury side, specially if there are crispy strips of bacon involved, will go nicely with an Old Fashioned. There’s just something about the ridiculously decadent combination of bacon, sweetness and whiskey that makes this an absolute indulgence.

LEMON AND SUGAR CLASSIC PANCAKES + IRISH BREAKFAST TEA

One classic calls for another and if you’re having your pancakes with the timeless mix of lemon and sugar, the math is easy as this equation is only missing the mild bitter kick of a cup of fine tea. Since the topping is Ireland’s most popular, we’d go for the beloved Irish Breakfast tea blend, with perhaps a drop (or two) of milk if that’s how you like it.

CREPE SUZETTE + SAUTERNES

A continental take on citrus meets pancake with more complex flavours and a crepe (or several) instead of a fluffy pancake. If the flaming and the touch of liquor are not glam enough, serve them with Sauternes, a legendary dessert wine that will create an explosion of flavour after sip one.

NUTELLA PANCAKES + COLOMBIAN COFFEE

Nutella’s sweet nuttiness and creamy texture is not only a winning pancake topping -no matter if they’re crepes or American style!- it’s also a lovely flavour to pair with fine Colombian coffee. These beans are famous for their mildness, mellow taste and low acidity. Instead of an americano, try it filtered or as an espresso, to get the most flavour!
