A Taste of Germany from Galway – Kompass Review

Kompass is the latest in a long line of special releases from Galway Bay Brewery. They call it a Hopfendunkel Weisse. So it’s a strong (8.2%) dark German style beer. It’s a lovely ruby brown. There’s loads of banana and cloves on the nose and it follows through to the taste. The palate is quite sweet with some bubblegum and a hint of spice. In Galway Bay bars the beer is €4.85 for a 330ml serving and I’d say any German beer fans will enjoy it.

I was cheeky enough to bring my growler in to Oslo at half eight on a busy Saturday night and despite it not really being intended for home consumption they looked after me, so thanks to them for that. I had the beer with some hearty beef stew and bread and butter pudding. I think it worked better with the dessert. Try it for yourself now in a Galway Bay Brewery bar in Galway or Dublin. Sláinte!

Ireland’s second craft beer book perhaps! And a lot of beers.
