Alltech Brews & Food Festival 2015 – By @irishbeersnob

Now in its third year the Alltech Brews & Food Festival is coming back to Dublin’s Convention Centre this February. Changing the running order slightly this year the event is on Friday 27th to Sunday 1st March.

It was my first time to attend the festival last year and I’m really looking forward to see what they do this year. I got to see first hand the passion and dedication of the team of Alltech in putting this event together. Obviously this comes from the top of the company where Dr Pearse Lyons has a history in Brewing and Distilling. I recall with fondness his keynote address at lest year’s festival, his enthusiasm really is infectious. It is a truly exciting time for Alltech as they have recently announced they will be opening a distillery on James St. in Dublin 8.

The venue itself is the stunning Dublin Convention Centre, on the banks of the Liffey. This year there will be no shortage of Irish and International Craft Brewers and Cider producers. What makes this event so different from the other festivals is the truly international representation of breweries. We had some great breweries from all over Europe last year and we are undoubtedly going to see more this year. The standard of the beers are improving year on year, and also the range and choice.

Not only do brewers get to talk first hand to their customers, they also have the opportunity to compete for the coveted Dublin Craft Beer Cup which not only receives entries from the breweries in attendance, but also brewers from around the world. Last year saw Danish Brewer Coisbo win over all with their excellent Russian Imperial Stout simply called “Four” – hopefully we will see there beers in the near future in Ireland. So who is going to win it this year?

For those of a Rugby persuasion, fear not – the match will be shown on the big screen, along side other entertainment – which all really adds to the atmosphere, last year the roars were enormous as Ireland beat Wales on their way to the 6 Nations Championship.

I’m really looking forward to the expanded food side of things, as this was one area I felt there was for improvement and from talking to the team, we are going to see some great Irish food producers showing off there wares. The perfect opportunity to match these with the ampleamount of beers on offer.
