AMY AUSTIN A wine bar, but different – opens Thursday 20th February

Amy Austin on Dublin’s Drury Street opens this Thursday, 20th February. Conceived and created by John Farrell, Amy is a wine bar for wine lovers, with good food too. Seating fewer than 30 diners, it’s a modest space but boasts a vibrant décor, a broad range of wines on tap and by the bottle, and an eclectic menu to match. With 25% off wine every Monday and Tuesday, 2 plate deals every day ‘til 6pm, walk ins welcome, and bookings only for 4 or more, Amy Austin is serious about being relaxed. Dogs welcome! (Open Monday to Saturday ‘til late, from 2nd March Amy Austin will also open for lunch from midday each day).

Amy offers 12 wines on tap across white, orange and red, available as 150ml (ranging in price from €6 for Amy’s White or Red to €13 for Westell Ortega or Folk Machine Pinot Noir), or as 500ml or 750ml servings.  Available by the bottle there’s a further 15 whites, 15 reds, 2 sparkling, 2 orange and 5 non-alcoholic wines. There’s also Aperitivi such as Negroni, a selection of Vermouth and a choice of non-alcoholic drinks and beers too. At the helm of the bar, offering advice and guiding choices, is Rose O’Toole, formerly of Aimsir. The wine selection, representing all major regions and a few niche ones too, will be refreshed regularly with guest wines by tap and bottle.

Amy Austin’s All Day & Night menu was created in a collaboration between Chefs Essa Fakhry of 777 and Matt Raynor, recently returned from London, who now takes over at the pass.  There’s a focus on fun and exciting small plates throughout, designed to let the carefully sourced ingredients shine. Split across a charcuterie and cheese selection, cold and hot dishes and a single delicious dessert, Amy will also offer daily and vegan specials. From midday ‘til 6pm, 2 plates are priced at €23 or €28 with dessert.

A selection of charcuterie and cheese, with guest produce, is all served with charred bread, preserves or home preserves priced from €6. A chunk of Hegarty’s Cheddar simply served with thinly sliced white onion is just €5, or Lardo on Toast for €6.50.

Cold plates include 3 Carlingford Oysters served with kimchi bloody mary €9, Toonsbridge Burrata, crown prince pumpkin, basil pesto and toasted seeds €11, Andarl Organic Ham Hock Terrine, foie gras, soy pickled Ard Mhacha Shiitake €12.50 and Yellowfin Tuna Crudo with house ponzu, avocado, sesame €13.

From the hot selection, there’s Fried Dublin Bay Prawns with garlic toum, bisque and dill €14, Butter-poached Turbot, potted shrimp, wild garlic, fermented samphire €15, Veal Ossobucco, borlotti beans, roasted cauliflower purée, salsa verde €15, Suckling Pig Belly, pickled hispi cabbage, bacon creme fraiche €14 or Beef Cheek Ragu fried polenta, parmesan cream €12.

Finish with really good coffee €3, and the current dessert offering, a Poached Pear & Frangipane Tart with Chantilly Cream €7.

Named as an homage to a famous graffitied declaration of love, now famous in Austin, Texas and beyond, Amy Austin is designed for lovers of wine, food and fun. Drop in, Drink, Eat, Enjoy.
