Deepen Your Wine Knowledge with a Tasting in the Depths of Ashford Castle’s Wine Cellars

From the outside and throughout the interior the results of the multi million restoration of the award-winning Ashford Castle are clear for all to see. One of the Castle’s hidden gems lies deep below however, and now you are invited to discover this treasure with a unique wine tasting experience in the Castle’s magnificent Wine Cellars.

Under the guidance of Head Sommelier Philip Dunne and the expert team, guests can enjoy a series of private wine tasting experiences in the Wine Cellars, sampling a selection of vintages as well as old and new world wines, with prices starting from €55 per guest.

Looking for something more intimate? Guests of Ashford Castle and The Lodge at Ashford Castle can currently enjoy the Super Tuscan Private Wine Tasting in the Wine Cellars which incorporates classic Italian wines such as Sassicaia and Tignanello, priced at €195 per guest.

Other upcoming private tastings from July onwards include Icons of California, featuring wines such as Opus One and Chateau Montelena, along with The Premier Cru First Growth of Bordeaux where guests may sample superior blends such as Château Mouton Rothschild and Château Haut-Brion.

These intimate private wine tastings are available to all guests on a daily basis and can be booked through the hotel’s concierge between 4pm to 6pm.

A diamond in the rough, the impressive new Wine Cellars were hewn from the Castle’s coal tunnels that originated from the 18th Century.

In its new guise the space has been transformed into warm and atmospheric haven where guests can relax and savour the sensational wines of Ashford Castle.

For centuries the Wine Cellars of Ashford Castle have housed some of the world’s finest wines and today, guests can choose from an impressive list of over 750 wines including the exclusive Bouchard Finlayson collection from South Africa, owned by the Tollman family of Red Carnation Hotels.
