Athlone Shannon Festival Kicks Off With Foodie Fun For The Whole Family

The Athlone Shannon Festival is set to kick off in less than three weeks and it will be full of family fun, food and more!

The festival will be showing off the best of Ireland’s Hidden Heartlands from September 8th to September 9th, with lots of activities and events in store for attendees.

The official launch of the festival will take place on Saturday the 8th at 4.00pm. A delicious duo of Guinness and Oysters will be served at Sean’s Bar overlooking the riverside, whilst smooth jazz music plays in the background.

The Heritage Boat Association will be showcasing some of their most spectacular vessels on the East Quay. Step back in time and imagine what life was like for the Vikings of the past. Explore the medieval village that will feature stalls highlighting embroidery, weapon-making and more.

The kids will be fully entertained with a fun chocolate painting workshop held by the award-winning An Olivia Chocolate. This workshop will take place at the Radisson Blu Festival Marquee from 11.00am.

The adults won’t miss out on the fun either as the Midlands Whiskey Experience is running a local whiskey and chocolate tasting event in the Malt House from 5.00pm.

The Festival Food Trail sees the best local restaurants taking part in the action. The Fatted Calf, Kin Khao, Fine Wine & Wine Company and Thyme are just some of the participating restaurants.

Music lovers will delight in the live music being played throughout the festival. Meander the Music Trail in Athlone’s best pubs with live music sessions to keep spirits high.

The weekend will have a wide range of activities taking place, including a fashion show, boat races on the River Shannon, flyboarding displays, cookery demos and heaps more.
