The Australia Day Tasting, held on 27 January at Royal Hibernian Academy, forms part of a three-day trade event where a wide and diverse range of Australian wines will be presented in London (26 January) and Edinburgh (28 January).
The event will showcase more than 200 wines from 44 wineries, encouraging the trade to discover new regions and varieties. Meanwhile a focus table featuring two of Australia’s signature varieties, Chardonnay and Shiraz, will explore the history and evolution of these two grapes across the regions.
On the 18 tables of exhibitors, 15 of the 44 wineries are seeking distribution in Ireland, providing a great opportunity for the trade to find new inspiration for the New Year.
Both Wine Australia Chair Brian Walsh and Chief Executive Officer Andreas Clark will attend the event, with Mr Walsh also co-hosting an invitation-only trade master class alongside Australian wine expert John McDonnell.
For the first time consumers will also have an opportunity to explore new Australian wines, with an evening session adding to the success of what has traditionally been a trade-only event.
Wine Australia Head of Market UK and Europe Laura Jewell MW said the Australia Day Tasting will provide the most comprehensive opportunity for Irish trade and consumers to experience premium Australian wines.
‘We encourage everyone to attend our annual event to celebrate the diversity of Australian wines from a snapshot of our 65 unique regions,’ she says.
‘Ireland remains a strong market for Australian wine and this is a not-to-be-missed opportunity to refresh your knowledge in our exceptional portfolio of premium wines. With several visiting winemakers and principals, this really will be an immersion into what Australian wine is achieving today.’
