Blooming Brilliant – Bloom Festival Returns To Dublin on June 1st with New Diverse Themes

Ireland’s premier gardening festival Bloom returns for its 11th edition this June Bank Holiday Weekend, bringing five full days of flowers, food and family fun to the Phoenix Park from June 1st – 5th

This year the diverse themes at the show gardens include the global fall-out from the rise of “fake news”, the need for a safe-haven for dementia sufferers and making Ireland the best country in the world to be a dog.

Run by Bord Bia, Bloom showcases the best of Ireland’s horticultural and food industry. It will run for five days, , over the June bank holiday weekend.

According to Bord Bia, Bloom 2017 will feature 22 spectacular show gardens created by award winning garden designers.

Organisations such as Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital Crumlin; Enable Ireland; Trocaire; Pieta House and Oxfam/GOAL have collaborated with a number of seasoned and new Bloom designers to create show-gardens capturing a range of societal issues. These include children’s health, disability, mental health, and the need for a more tolerant and peaceful world.

For the food lovers, the Bord Bia Quality Kitchen Stage will feature more than 25 live cookery demonstrations from Ireland’s best loved chefs including Neven Maguire, Catherine Fulvio, Rory O’Connell and Roz Purcell to name but a few.

Gary Graham, Bord Bia’s Bloom Show Manager spoke at the launch and said:

“We are really excited about this year’s show gardens which will explore a range of social and cultural issues which are sure to resonate with visitors. Bloom continues to celebrate excellence in our horticulture and food industry with a range of medals awarded to garden designers, nurseries, floral artists, botanical artists and exhibitors over the course of the event.”

Some key features to keep an eye out for this year include, the Food Village which will host over 100 Irish food producers in both the Bord Bia Food Markets and Love Irish Food marquees, Budding Bloomers’ which is the children’s area to keep the little ones entertained and The Irish Craft Village supported by Design & Craft Council of Ireland which will present a selection of work from some of Ireland’s most creative designers and makers.
