Delicious Soul Food – The Foodie Line Up for Body & Soul Festival Has Been Announced

Body & Soul, Ireland’s most immersive and diverse festival will take place on 22nd to 24th June with music, arts and gastronomic delights.

This year’s festivities will see each food vendor partaking in ‘Food On Board’. This innovative concept has each vendor offering up their unique dishes served on wooden boards without any packaging.

Food stalls and producers taking part in this worth while initiative include The Market Kitchen, Katie Jane Sanderson of White Masu, Root & Branch Coffee Roasters, My Goodness, Boroughgammon Farm, Sceal Bakery and Julia’s Lobster Truck.

Each of the carefully selected food vendors at Body & Soul provide high quality delicious food made with organic and locally sourced ingredients. The food served is not your typical festival fare of greasy burgers and chips, this amazing concept is not only highlighting the importance of food sustainability but is also offering festival goers tasty and nutritious food.

Body & Soul

The force behind this concept is curator Jack Crotty, owner of Cork’s Rocket Man Juice & Salad Bar. Commenting on the initiative Jack said,

“Food on Board is a response to the huge waste generated at festivals. We have handmade 800 wooden boards which we wash and recycle throughout the weekend. With this there are no single use plastics filling up the bins around our area”

The boards are then washed and reused with all the food waste composted on site. The festival is spreading awareness for sustainability and is using its platform to create positive social change. Jack continued on saying,

“We have a biodigestor on site kindly supported by Harp Renewables which chews up our food waste converting it to a compost ready material. We then scatter this compost throughout the site over the weekend.”

Food on Board will be a place for passionate foodies to share ideas and experiences with a series of talks throughout the weekend. Other producers serving up tempting treats include The Happy Pea, The Vegan Kitchen, Umi Falafel, Cloudpicker Coffee Limited, Shaka Poke, The Big Blue Bus, The Pieman, Home Fries, SayFish and Kanum Thai.

Body & Soul’s Traders Manager, Corinna Flood spoke on the festivals food ethos saying the criteria is very specific and needs to be harmonious with the festival itself. Corinna says the festival serves up both food and music that is good for both Body & Soul;

 “No greasy spoons, no processed foods. I always look for something that is original, new to the market and fresh, tasty. We ask for bio-degradable materials at least, but ideally we want compostable – cutlery; plates; bowls; coffee cups; lids etc.”

Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased here. Keep up to date with all the festival fun on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
