Cork Craft Beer is Ireland’s Favourite

A craft beer brewed entirely from Irish malt has scooped the prestigious Craft Beer of the Year Award from beer consumer organisation Beoir for 2015. The Full Irish is an India Pale Ale made by the Eight Degrees brewery in Mitchelstown Co. Cork using malt from the Malting Company of Ireland, also based in Cork. It is 6% ABV and uses American hop varieties for bittering, flavour and aroma.

Every beer brewed on the island of Ireland is eligible for the award and votes are cast by the members of the organisation, now numbering over 500. Beoir’s aim is to promote quality, choice and value on the Irish beer market.

Runner-up prizes were awarded to White Hag Brewery of Sligo for Black Boar imperial stout and also to last year’s winner Of Foam & Fury double IPA by Galway Bay Brewery.

Beoir is an independent consumer group seeking to increase the quality, value and choice in beer and cider available to drinkers in Ireland. It was founded in 2010 and currently has over 500 paying subscribers. Chairman Reuben Gray can be contacted at chair@beoir.org or 086 371 7452.
