Culture Night Returns on 16th September: Check the Evening’s Foodie Highlights

On the evening of the 16th September towns, villages and cities across Ireland will erupt with creativity as Ireland’s annual cultural spectacular, Culture Night returns for another year. The event has become Ireland’s most popular cultural evening with 370,000 attendees around the country last year.

Museums, galleries, cathedrals, studios, observatories, libraries, parks, government buildings and theatres will open their doors for FREE visits, tours, workshops, readings, performances and demonstrations for the eleventh Culture Night.

Foodie Highlights

Foodies will find plenty to do and to taste at this year’s Culture Night, and here are a few of the food related events happening across Ireland:

Oranmore: International Food Tasting
Let your taste buds take a global tour through the tastes and aromas of Oranmores many restaurants and food suppliers. From Italy to Bangladesh, your taste buds will be educated in flavours of the world, including a nod to the rising popularity of vegan food.

Hands-On Bread Workshop
Culture and Chips are back at Ormston House on Culture Night for hands-on breadmaking. Join us for short 15-minute workshops to learn traditional food skills and enjoy the smell and taste of your own fresh bread. Workshops are offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

Gnó Mhaigh Eo and Westport Smarter Travel
Craic, chat & culture on your bicycle – Booking required – gno@gnomhaigheo.ie
Beginning in Westport Town Hall with Mocktails and a Cúpla focal before we head off on our bikes for a night of culture and food surprises in Westport Town. Make sure to bring your helmet, hi-vis, lights, a sense of mischief and a hungry belly. Bígí linn don chraic agus spraoi!

Address: Visiting a number of venues on the night, meeting at Westport Town Hall Theatre.

Clifden: Cultural Tastes from around the World
St Joseph’s Court residents hosting and showcasing the food, culture, customs and music of countries where they resided. Refreshments served.
Time: 5.00pm – 11.00pm

Cooking Up A Delicious Storm
‘Cooking Up A Delicious Storm’ provides the opportunity to showcase varied specialties (food, drink & or beverage) from across the world.
It’s free to take up challenge and to participate in other cultural activities of the night.

Cork City Partnership, Spriggs Road
The Youth Café Network of Cork will host an International Cookery Demonstration. The evening should be a fun experience for both young and old and will give people the tools to cook different food. It will also be a great opportunity for the network to promote our work on the evening and to encourage new members and volunteers to join us.

TACÚ – Ballinrobe FRC
TACÚ Family Resource Centre is inviting audiences to join them on Culture Night for an evening of cultural exchange. On the evening people will have an opportunity to experience food and music from the local area and that of some of the new communities who now live in Ballinrobe.

Gourmet Music
Join us for an evening celebrating local music and locally produced food, surrounded by an eclectic selection of new, rare and interesting books.

AGRIculture
Derrybeg Farm is an example of community-supported agriculture (CSA) – a membership farm. There is a direct relationship between the farmer and the 30-40 households who consume the food produced. Come for a walk around and meet some of the members. We will give a talk and a tour about our watering system and demonstrate the bicycle powered veg washer. Bring wellingtons in case it’s mucky! Guinness Storehouse
Enjoy an exclusive opportunity to delve into the Guinness Archives and learn about the history of Guinness innovations since 1759 at the Guinness Storehouse on Culture Night. Sample some of the brewery’s latest innovations from the Brewer’s Project, paired with delicious food prepared by the Guinness Storehouse culinary team at this exclusive evening. Culture Night is not only happening across Ireland but is showcasing our incredible culture internationally in New York, Paris and Leeds.

Cultural audiences in the capital and around the country can travel with a ‘cultural edge’ on the night thanks to transport partners Dublin Bus, Bus Éireann and Irish Rail. Dublin Bus will provide FREE buses every 20 minutes starting on Bachelor’s Walk, Aston Quay, College Green and Eden Quay bringing visitors to and from their favourite cultural quarters. These FREE buses will be fully programmed with on-bus entertainment from Temple Bar Tradfest!

In Cork Bus Éireann will provide three complimentary bus routes to cater for those on the cultural hunt and Irish Rail and DART will offer 100 free family passes for travel on Culture Night itself.
