Donegal Gin ‘An Dúlamán Santa Ana’ Awarded Silver at World Gin Awards

The team at Sliabh Liag Distillers is celebrating once again after it’s An Dúlamán Santa Ana Armada Strength Gin was awarded silver in the Navy Gin category of the World Gin Awards (Round One Country Results).

The World Gin Awards are the global awards selecting the very best in all internationally recognised styles of gin and reward and promote the world’s best gins to consumers and trade across the globe.

Sliabh Liag Distillers is based in west-Donegal, on Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way, and released An Dúlamán Santa Ana Armada Strength Gin in August last year.

Moira Doherty, distiller and  one of the directors of Sliabh Liag Distillers, says it is an honour to be recognised at an international level: “It’s fantastic to be recognised among some of the best gin brands in the world. Our An Dúlamán Santa Ana Armada Strength Gin has a really rich story, with a strong connection to Donegal, so we’re delighted to be sharing that with gin lovers around the world.”

“An Dúlamán Santa Ana Armada Strength Gin is a barrel-aged, navy strength expression of An Dúlamán and is the first Irish navy strength gin to come to the market. As with the classic An Dúlamán Irish Maritime Gin, Santa Ana is inextricably linked to the stunning Donegal coastline. Its name comes from La Duquesa Santa Ana, a formidable Andalusian ship which was lost off Loughros Mor, Ardara, in Philip II’s ill-fated Spanish Armada’s attempt to invade England in 1588. Aged for twelve weeks in Rioja wine casks from the home region of the Santa Ana’s commander, the gin takes on a beautiful rose gold hue and a slight sweetness which complements the rich umami notes of An Dúlamán Gin. After aging, Santa Ana is bottled at an “Armada” strength of 57% ABV.” Moira added.

The distillery’s other brands include the Silkie Irish Whiskey, An Dúlamán Irish Maritime Gin and Assaranca Vodka, which was released in 2019. Sliabh Liag Distillers is committed to reclaiming the distilling heritage of Donegal and plans to release The Sliabh Liag Donegal Single Malt Irish Whiskey and Donegal Pot Still Irish Whiskey when it reaches maturation.

An Dúlamán Santa Ana is best enjoyed neat, or over ice as a beautifully complex sipping gin. It also pairs well with premium tonic for an upgraded G&T or with a simple dash of soda water, over ice to relish the gin without any added flavours. A simple Martini is the perfect vehicle to showcase the strength and subtle notes of Santa Ana.

An Dúlamán Santa Ana is available from all good off-licenses throughout the country and be purchased online at www.celticwhiskeyshop.com or www.drinkstore.ie. For more information on Sliabh Liag Distillers visit www.sliabhliagdistillers.com.
