Fashion and Fun at VSO Ireland’s Chic at the Shelbourne

VSO Ireland’s flagship event Chic at the Shelbourne returned for its seventh year to the 5 star Shelbourne Hotel on Wednesday 7th December. The glittering event, hosted by Brendan Courtney and sponsored by Hays Recruitment, Chic raised vital funds for VSO’s health, education and livelihoods programmes overseas. VSO is the world’s leading independent international development organisation and works through volunteers to fight poverty in low income countries.

Guests at Chic at the Shelbourne were treated to a champagne reception, delicious three course meal and fashion show with designs from Louis Copeland, Olivia Danielle, Suzie Mahony, Deborah Veale and Areeda Fabrics by Abiola. There was also a special raffle with over 30 luxurious prizes.

VSO volunteers were present to talk about their experiences and how donations make such an impact in the world’s poorest communities. Dr Peter O’Reilly from Kerry took to the stage to discuss his placement on a neonatal health programme in Tanzania, where the rate of babies dying needlessly is ten times higher than in Ireland. Events like Chic are important to raise awareness about VSO Ireland’s work and help send more volunteers like Peter to save babies’ lives.

Kate O’Donnell, VSO Ireland’s interim Executive Director, commented, “We’re delighted here to have had another successful Chic at the Shelbourne. It was fantastic to kick the Christmas season off in style and celebrate the incredible work our volunteers are doing overseas. A massive thank you to all of our sponsors and suppliers and, of course, Brendan Courtney for entertaining us all so much.”
