This G&T Sorbet from a Sligo Ice-Cream Parlour just Won Best Flavour in the World

Award winning artisan ice cream parlour Gelati Ice Cream in Enniscrone, Sligo, and Ballina, Mayo, has rocked it at an international ice cream show in the world held recently in Italy, where they were awarded “Best Flavour in the World” for their Gin & Tonic sorbet.

Sigep 2018, at the Rimini Expo Centre, Italy, took place between the 19th and 23rd of January and gathered some of the best producers of artisan gelato, as well as pastries, bakeries and coffee shops around the world and it’s the largest trade event for the gelato industry.

The award was given to Michael O’Dowd from Gelati and Neil Byrne from Mammyjohnstons, as the pair developed the flavour together and plan to introduce it to the market in a joint venture announced in Gelati’s Facebook Page.

The Gin & Tonic sorbet is made with a full bottle of gin per batch and it’s so boozy that only over 18s are allowed to have it. The tipple of choice is the multi award-winning Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish Gin.

This is not Gelati’s first taste of success internationally, as they were highlighted as Best Oreo Gelato in the world in 2016 at the Mostra del Gelato competition in Longarone, Italy. That same year, as Sigep, Gelati also received an accolade for Best Ferrero Rocher gelato in the world.

I guess we need to put a trip to Sligo on the top of our list! And while we’re there, how about discovering many of the wonderful food and drink experiences that form part of their exciting Sligo Food Trail? Time for a road trip.
