One of the Best supper Clubs of the Year is Coming to the Guinness Open Gate Brewery

One of the best supper clubs of the year is on its way to The Guinness Open Gate Brewery. Between Wednesday 6th and Thursday 7th of December, Guinness will host The Gilroy Christmas Supper Club, inspired by the artist John Gilroy, who created the beloved and witty advertisements synonymous with the Guinness brand.

To offer a truly memorable food experience, Guinness has teamed up with some of the most exciting and innovative names in food now: Jack and Theo Kirwan from Sprout & Co, seafood superstar of Klaw fame Niall Sabongi and Patrick Ryan from the award-winning Firehouse Bakery.

These stove luminaries have created a one of a kind Guinness-inspired five course menu to be paired with Ireland’s favourite stout for an experience that promises to surprise thanks to their innovative use of fresh and top quality Irish ingredients. The menu has been composed to highlight and compliment the flavours of Ireland’s favourite stout.

Along the delectable dishes, The Gilroy Christmas Supper Club at the Guinness Open Gate Brewery will bring a smile to guests’ faces with a cheerful showcase of many of Guinness’ most fondly remembered advertisements. A series of sketches and information about John Gilroy’s life will also be displayed.

The artist, who revolutionised brand advertising, was the author of one of the longest-running campaigns of all time: “My Goodness, MY GUINNESS!”, which featured a hapless zoo keeper character, a caricature of Gilroy himself.

In celebration of John Gilroy, the people at Guinness have also released a set of special edition Guinness Draught cans available now in supermarkets across the island. The collectable cans feature two of his most iconic works: “The Lobster” and “The Smiling Pint”. In keeping with the style of Gilroy’s work, the vibrant illustrations are set against a white background – this time the canvas is the can – a striking contrast to the “black” or Ruby red Guinness Draught inside.

The Lobster, vibrant and eye-catching, gives a nod to the association of Guinness and seafood, a delightful match that combines the richness and roasted taste of the stout with the soft, creamy taste of fish and shellfish.

The Smiling Pint offers a look into Gilroy’s light-hearted humorous nature as when asked to depict a pint of Guinness, the painter included a happy face in the foam. Collectors often refer to this charming drawing as the “anthropomorphic glass.”

Tickets for The Gilroy Christmas Supper Club are now on sale at guinnessopengate.com and are priced at €40, including a five-course dinner menu and two pints of Guinness Draught.
