Love Italian Food? The House of Peroni’s La Sagra Food Festival Sounds Unmissable

We all know the Italians have a passionate love of food running through their veins and an innate understanding of the importance of the quality of ingredients in creating irresistible dishes. Here in Ireland, we have access to some of the finest raw materials, from unrivaled dairy produce to meat renowned the world over for its superior flavour.

It is little wonder then that The House of Peroni has chosen to host a special dining experience in Dublin, marrying the techniques and rich traditional of Italian cuisine with award-winning Irish artisan produce. Making this marriage of cuisines and cultures even more exciting, Former World Young Chef of the Year, 25-year-old Dubliner, Mark Moriarty, and acclaimed Italian chef, Francesco Mazzei, have joined forces to deliver a dinner to remember.

This special Sagra dining experience will take place in Dublin on Friday, 20th October, hosted as part of Peroni Nastro Azzurro’s La Sagra Food Festival in Meeting House Square, the menu will feature Italian-inspired dishes made using local ingredients from Irish food producers who have been inspired by Italy in their work. A sagra is a traditional Italian festival that brings communities together to celebrate their local food produce.

During the evening, dishes will be introduced by Mark and Francesco, while guests will also get to hear from the local producers whose ingredients have been used throughout the menu such as Italian-style cheese makers, Toons Bridge Dairy, from West Cork, and artisan salumi producers, The Wooded Pig from Meath.

The event offers Irish foodies a rare chance to enjoy Mark’s accomplished cooking, as he is currently based on the other side of the world in Melbourne, Australia. Commenting on the dinner at La Sagra, Mark said: “I love the Italian passion for produce, and I am very excited to cook alongside Francesco in Dublin. Expect classic, regional Italian dishes, cooked with the best Irish ingredients, presented with a few twists and a little bit of theatre.”

Mark has a glittering CV and has learned from some of Ireland’s finest chefs, working under Kevin Thornton at Thornton’s Restaurant, and Mickael Viljanen at Michelin Star restaurant The Greenhouse. In 2013, he was named the Euro-toques Irish Young Chef of the Year and in 2015 he was crowned the San Pellegrino World Young Chef of the Year at a ceremony in Milan, beating 19 other top chefs from across the globe to the title.

Having spent the last two years travelling the world, Mark dedicated much of his time to the Terra Madre, cooking at events, and visiting local producers and restaurants across Italy to immerse himself in the cuisine. In October 2016, he cooked a gala dinner for 300 people in Milan, alongside one of the world’s most highly acclaimed chefs, Massimo Bottura.
