Indulge your Sweet Tooth with Decadent Chocolate Afternoon Tea at InterContinental Dublin

Based on the doorstep of Dublin city in leafy Ballsbridge, the five-star InterContinental Dublin is introducing an indulgent Chocolate Afternoon Tea that is sure to satisfy even the sweetest tooth.

Dating back to the 1700s, Afternoon Tea is believed to have been invented by Anna, the Seventh Duchess of Bedford. At the time, dinner was usually served around 8pm, and the wait between meals left diners rather peckish. Ingeniously, Anna requested sandwiches and cakes to be served in the afternoon and thus, the divine ritual of Afternoon Tea was born!

Carrying on this age-old tradition, InterContinental Dublin is serving a new chocolate-inspired Afternoon Tea in the luxurious surroundings of The Lobby Lounge. Begin your three-tiered feast with a selection of delicate finger sandwiches, including Smoked Irish Salmon with Dill Cream Cheese; Egg Paprika; Lemon Scented Chicken and classic Ham, Cheese & Mustard, as well as open-faced sandwiches of Crab Salad and Roast Irish Beef.

Following your savoury snacks, enjoy Buttermilk Scones – served with luscious clotted cream alongside homemade mango and raspberry preserves.

Saving the best until last, savour an assortment of tantalising chocolate goodies. Head Pastry Chef Orna Larkin and her team have created a sinfully delicious range of treats including Dark Chocolate and Orange Choux Bun; Chocolate Peanut Gateaux, White Chocolate and Raspberry Bakewell Tart and a delightful Milk Chocolate Tiramisu.

The little ones are more than catered for at InterContinental Dublin, with a specially prepared Children’s Afternoon Tea menu also on offer. Starting with tasty sandwiches of Ham & Cheese, Banana & Peanut Butter and Strawberry Jam, they will then enjoy fluffy homemade scones, before a tasty trio of Chocolate Brownie, Mini Vanilla Cupcake and Fruit Skewer – all served with a choice of freshly squeezed juice or a hot beverage.

Chocolate Afternoon Tea is priced at €40 per person and is served with your choice of Shibui Loose Tea or gourmet coffee. Why not add a glass of Perrier-Jouët Grand Brut Champagne and enjoy some sparkle with your tea for just €55 per person? Children’s Afternoon Tea is priced at €15 per child.
