Instituto Cervantes will host an Evening of Wine, Science & Literature June 14th

The Instituto Cervantes is to host an evening in celebration of Spanish wine and its influence on Spain’s gastronomy and literature on Tuesday June 14th.

Throughout the evening, guests will take part in a special wine tasting of Spanish wines selected by international wine distributor González Byass: Tio Pepe Fino, Alfonso Oloroso, Solera 1847 Cream and Nectar PX.

As they enjoy their wine, three experts will be discussing the prominent role played by wine in Spanish life from three distinct perspectives, the science of wine making, the art of wine tasting and its influence on literature and Spanish culture.

Fernando Cardesa Cabrera is the export area manager for the international department of González Byass, one of Spain’s best-known wineries. In 2016 he was awarded a WSET Level 3 award in wines and spirits and he will be leading the section about tasting wine.

María del Carmen Martínez Rodríguez holds a doctorate in biology from the University of Santiago de Compostela. She is also a scientific researcher with the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas, specialising in viticulture. She will be discussing the science behind the industry.

Finally writer and journalist Marta Rivera de la Cruz makes up the panel with a conversation about Spanish culture and how every aspect is influenced by wine.

This exclusive event takes place at 6.30pm Tuesday 14th of June at the Instituto Cervantes. Admission is free but places are limited so book now by emailing bookings.dublin@cervantes.es.
