Ireland is Full of Stars as The Great Taste Awards are Announced

Today the Guild of Fine Food have announced the winners of the coveted Great Taste Awards.

With 10,000 products to be judged, the process took several months across Ireland and the UK with a judging roadshow taking place in Tipperary.

A staggering 3,539 products were awarded the prestigious Great Taste accolade and of those, 430 are based in Ireland.

Popular winners include The Tipperary Kitchen’s 3-star Holycross Original Butterscotch Sauce, which was said to be “beautifully made and executed perfectly” to create “heaven in a bowl”, Nobó’s “creamy and attractive” vegan and dairy free Irish Salted Caramel Ice Cream and an “unctuous and moreish, squidgy and moist” Irish Handmade All Butter Sticky Toffee Pudding from Dunnes Stores.

The awards are commonly referred to as the Oscars of food, revered as a stamp of excellence among consumers and retailers alike. The blind tasting has several processes and levels, ensuring each product goes through vigorous testing by the judges.

With over 500 critics, chefs, restaurateurs, writers and producers on the judging panel, the Great Taste Awards are the most respected food accreditations for producers. Restaurant and food critic Charles Campion says, “Great Taste is the only food award worth having”.

The top 50 products will be announced on Saturday August 6th on Twitter @guildoffinefood #Top50Foods. The winning Irish producers will now have to wait until September 5th to find out if they have won one of the coveted regional Golden Fork awards while judging continues to find the Great Taste Supreme Champion 2016 for this year.

Details of this year’s winners can be found at www.greattasteawards.co.uk.
