This New Boozy Afternoon Tea Sounds Gin-Credibly Delicious

We all know the only way to improve upon an afternoon of gorging on sandwiches and cake is to add in a cheeky tipple or two. Champagne and Prosecco afternoon tea is a common (and fabulous) feature in most high end hotels, but the phenomenon of boozy afternoon tea has spread its wings to include everyone’s favourite – gin.

Having adored the G&Tea experience in Dublin’s InterContinental, we were thrilled to hear that Gin afternoon tea is now being celebrating in Cork hotspot Electric. Overlooking the River Lee, Electric is a modern and stylish bar and restaurant with a menu to match.

Electric’s new offering is no ordinary afternoon tea, even before your matching G&T is poured, as all of the ingredients are locally sourced from the English Market. Expect seriously tempting savoury delights like West Cork potted crab and crostini topped with black pudding and apple puree to kick things off, followed by freshly baked scones.

On to the sweet stuff, Rebel Chilli chocolate truffles and Murphy’s stout cupcakes are up first before a feast of treats like a Cork style Eton mess of local strawberries and crushed meringue as well as an orange trifle made with Rebel favourite Tanora.

This boozy afternoon tea is available for €30 per person and you can choose your poison to go with it – a G&T, glass of Prosecco or house cocktail – meaning there’s something for everyone. Road trip anyone?

‘Afternoon Tea by the Lee’ is served between 2pm and 5pm daily. Call 021 422 2990 or email book@electriccork.com to book or visit www.electriccork.ie for more information.
