New Zealand Wine Exports to the USA Broke Record Sales and Surpassed €450 Million

Last year, and for the first time ever, New Zealand’s wine exports to the USA surpassed the $500 million (€456 million), reporting a growth of 11%.

Philip Gregan, CEO of New Zealand Winegrowers, emphasised the significance of that figure, as the wine industry advances towards its goal of $2 billion of exports in 2020, and highlighted the potential for further growth in North America.

“The new record level of wine exports into the world’s largest and most competitive market is an outstanding achievement for New Zealand wine exporters and testifies to the strong global demand for our wines.”

Regarding the country’s flagship grape variety, Gregan said: “New Zealand wine, especially Sauvignon Blanc, is very popular in the US and we expect consumer demand to continue to grow.”

Wine has become a key export for New Zealand’s economy, and it’s now the fifth largest export good by value in the country.

As New Zealand wraps up 16 days of celebration building up to International Sauvignon Blanc Day on Friday 5th of May, this announcement comes at a busy time for their wine sector.
