A Taste of the Famed River Cottage Comes to Kilkenny as the Original House Goes Up for Sale

Channel 4’s River Cottage became an instant hit when it arrived our screens in 1998, charting charming chef Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall journey from London to the quaint Westcountry property and culinary adventures.

Now the iconic River Cottage and two of its key members, Steven Lamb and Gill Meller, are set to come to Croan Cottages, Kilkenny for a two day cookery course.

This exclusive and immersive experience will give attendees access to cook, learn and eat and drink with Steven and Gill, all the while absorbing their extensive knowledge and signature culinary styles.

Places on this course cost just €575 which includes your accommodation, all of your meals, course materials and some goodies to take away. There are a limited number of non residential places also available. The cost for a non-residential place is €450.

In other River Cottage related news, the original River Cottage has been put up for sale.

Not quite the quaint rural cottage it may have seemed on screen, the house is part of a £7 million Slape Manor Estate near Netherbury, Dorset.

According to Savills, the main home, which is in “outstanding” condition, has eight bedrooms, seven bathrooms and five reception rooms.

The Manor has two flats along with four cottages. Slape Lodge has three bedrooms, the two Slape Manor Cottages have three bedrooms and River Cottage has two bedrooms.

When filming the original TV show Escape To River Cottage Hugh rented the cottage from the estate’s owner, Antony Hichens, before buying himself a farm in the area.
