Chef Rob Curley to Represent Northern Ireland at Minature Pinxtos Congress in Spain

Chef Rob Curley runs Slemish Market Supper Club, a fun, creative and innovative pop-up dining experience, which utilises produce from Slemish Market Garden in Ballymena and the Glens of Antrim in Northern Ireland.

Chef Rob has over 20 years experience in the restaurant trade, having worked previously in Michelin starred L’Ecrivain and Shanahans On The Green in Dublin, Ireland.

Chef Rob won “Ulster Local Food Hero” at the Irish Restaurant Awards in 2016. His supper club was nominated for “Best local food story” at the Northern Ireland Food & Drink Awards in 2017 and “Best private & club dining” at the Irish Restaurant Awards in 2017.

On 8th March 2018, he will travel to the Basque region in Spain where he will represent Northern Ireland in the Annual Minature Pintxos Congress.

Taking place in Vitoria-Gasteiz, the capital of the Basque region, the Minature Pinxtos Congress will run from March 8th to 14th. This incredible culinary event stuns and delights with its minature morsels and unique gastronomic creations.

This event also brings top professional chefs together, including the champions tapas (pinxtos) chefs from last year and the world pinxto champion. The packed programme of activities will include a range of talks, cookery demonstrations, dinners, competitions and recreational activities. There will be initiatives such as “Minature Iron Chef” and “Minature Kids” as well as “The biggest bar in the world of pinxtos” where 50 pinxtos champions will be cooking together.

Chef Rob will be demonstrating his version of tapas (pinxtos) using ingredients from Northern Ireland. He will be using Lough Neagh eel and Lough Neagh pollan amongst other local ingredients. Rob will also be cooking at the gala dinner on 14th March entitled “Miniature Pintxo of Northern Ireland, the UK and Ireland”, again showcasing the produce from Northern Ireland.
