RTE Taste of Success Filming and Lot of Other Events at Westport Food Festival this Weekend

Westport Food Festival takes place this weekend from Friday 24th – Sunday 26th June 2016 and it’s all set to be the best ever with a packed programme of events for every age group. RTE’s leading food programme “Taste of Success”, with award winning chef Paul Flynn, will be filming live all day at the Food Village on The Fairgreen from 12 noon on Saturday 25th. The Fairgreen will be totally transformed into a bustling outdoor market, brimful of market stalls and tasty street food. Don’t miss the fabulous cookery and cocktail demonstrations from tp chefs, beginning at 12pm.

The flagship festival event is The Banquet on Friday 24th June in Hotel Westport – a fabulous get together feast celebrating everything that is good about Mayo food. The gala evening includes dancing to live music as well as the crowning of Best Artisan Producer as part of Westport Food Festival’s ongoing support for artisan food.

Tickets for The Banquet cost €45 per person and a limited number are still available through Hotel Westport on 098 25122 or tables of ten can be booked online via Eventbrite.

The ever popular Bike Buffet begins at Westport Town Hall at 1pm where guests will sample some fine Mocktails before they cycle out to the Quay to The Towers for some delicious starters. Next stop is Gracy’s on the grounds of Westport House for a BBQ before the tour finishes at the Food Festival Village on The Fairgreen for dessert from the Hotel Westport ice-cream cart. Or take to the high seas for a gourmet sea kayaking trip to remember on Sunday, starting at 11am. To cap it all you’ll stop off one on of the many islands for a gourmet picnic feast sourced from the best local producers. Fun for kids – with cupcakes or pizzas

Westport Food Festival never forgets the mini chefs – and this year they can try their hand at making either pizzas or cupcakes. If Kids Cupcake Decorating takes your fancy then let your child bring out their creative side with Sarah Flanagan of Enrica’s Cupcakes. Enrica’s are known for their fabulous and delicious cupcakes and your child will get the opportunity to learn how to decorate one of their own. Both events are on Saturday – under 8s at 1pm and over 8s at 1.45pm. The cost is just €5 per child and booking is through Eventbrite.ie.

If pizzas are their pleasure then Sunday at the Wyatt Hotel is the place to be for a Pizza Making Master Class. Kids can enjoy making their own pizza, s Stretch out the base, choose their own toppings and send the masterpiece into the oven. It’s quite amazing to see the combination of toppings a 6 year old will put on a pizza! Cut into slices and enjoy – sharing with parents is optional! Under 8s are at 12.30pm and over 8s at2pm. Cost is €10 per child and booking is through Eventbrite.ie.

The Bar Tenders Beer Race

It’s fun fun fun all the way at the Bar Tenders Beer Race on Sunday at 4pm along the North Mall. Bars and licensed premises from all over town form teams of 4 and race with loaded beer trays in hand. The rivalry is intense and the pace is nothing short of frantic. Thrills – and probably spills – are guaranteed. Be there to support your local.
