Sallyanne Clarke, President of Ireland’s Blue Book

2016 is turning out to be a very busy year for restaurateur Sallyanne Clarke. On top of running Michelin Star restaurant l’Ecrivain, this year Sallyanne has taken on the presidency of Ireland’s Blue Book.

The association was formed in 1974 by 11 founding members who found themselves in a gap between B&B accommodation and the larger hotel industry. Since its formation, the Blue Book has supported some of Ireland’s historic hotels and houses through difficult times and today represents nearly 50 businesses.

Members are selected on a strict criteria basis with an emphasis on properties with a strong individualistic style and character. The range of businesses included in the Blue Book make it a unique and distinctive marketing organisation.

The association represents 46 Hotels & Restaurants and three private rental properties including one of this year’s new entries, luxury barge The Shannon Princess. The collection also includes a former convent, a 200 year old lighthouse, two former coaching inns, four castles and five Michelin Starred chefs. The Blue Book is the only Irish member of the prestigious Historic Hotels of Europe group which is an umbrella federation representing 18 similar associations in 16 European countries.

Speaking about her presidency, Sallyanne told us: “I am thrilled and honoured to take on the role of President of Ireland’s Blue Book. It is such an exciting time, with 2016 being Northern Ireland’s Year of Food & Drink, and with positive tourism initiatives such as Ireland’s Ancient East and the Wild Atlantic Way our hotels & restaurants are looking forward to a busy year ahead.

I would like to continually promote all our hotels, restaurants and country houses throughout the Island of Ireland. In other words to shine a light on all Blue Book Members everywhere in this country. I look forward to our continued support from Tourism Ireland to attract overseas visitors, not just to Ireland but to all or properties. Most importantly, I would like to encourage everyone living here to take mini breaks and discover the beauty all around us in this wonderful country of ours.
