Sandymount’s BuJo Announced as Just Ask Restaurant of the Month

Who doesn’t love a good burger? BuJo (short for ‘Burger Joint’) in Sandymount has just been awarded Just Ask Restaurant of the Month for February by food writer Georgina Campbell and Bord Bia. The Just Ask Restaurant of the Month rewards eateries across Ireland for transparency in the sourcing of the food on their menus and a commitment to provenance.

BuJo is a fast casual restaurant that has a slow food ethos beating at its sustainable and eco-friendly heart. The menu boards and supplier information are flagged big and bold on the walls and it is clear to see that a lot of thought has been given to every aspect of this restaurant. While the food is casual and care-free, BuJo’s commitment to utilising Irish ingredients and displaying their suppliers is a serious one.

All the beef used in the tempting burgers is grass-fed and sourced from Bord Bia Quality Assured Irish farmers such as Jimmy Hennessy in Charleville, Co Cork. The bacon comes from Luke Bogue’s rare breed Hampshire pigs in Ballyjamesduff, Co Cavan, while the sweetly soft burger buns come from Coghlan’s Bakery in Newbridge, Co Kildare.

The all important side of chips is crafted only with Irish potatoes (as the season permits) and these are triple cooked, skin on, using GMO free rapeseed oil. Speciality milkshakes are hand spun using ice cream from Coolhull Farm in Co. Wexford and preservative and additive free cordials are from Bord Bia Origin Green champions Glenilen Farm in west Cork.

The choices are very simple with just a few options for burgers and fries. But the Irish beef burgers created by respected executive chef and BuJo Culinary Director Gráinne O’Keeffe are no ordinary burgers and have gained a cult following since opening. And, while fans flock here for the beef burgers, vegetarian and vegan burgers are also available.

Attention to detail is also seen in BuJo’s firm commitment to sustainability – it is the only burger-centric restaurant in all of Ireland & the U.K. to achieve a Three Star rating from the Sustainable Restaurant Association.

To celebrate their Just Ask Restaurant of the Month win, BuJo will be serving up a special Just Ask Burger with a double patty of grass fed, chargrilled Irish beef, crispy, beechwood-smoked Hampshire rarebreed bacon from Ballyjamesduff, Cashel Blue cheese, caramelised red onions and white truffle mayo on toasted BuJo brioche from Coghlan’s Bakery.

The celebratory burger will go down a treat with the Just Ask Milkshake, crafted with Coolhull Farm vanilla ice cream, rhubarb purée, rosewater and a topping of white and milk chocolate pearls!

If ever there was a good reason to give in to a burger craving, BuJo’s commitment to Irish ingredients and sustainability is all you need to justify a trip to Sandymount for a seriously delicious treat.
