Kildare’s coffee scene just got a promising newcomer. Square Coffee, located on The Square in Kildare Town, which opened just before Christmas and focuses on specialty coffee from local micro roasteries and healthy treats.
The place is more than a coffee shop, and it offers a stage for local artists to showcase their creativity. They’ve a retail area with pieces of contemporary art, design and craft.
The business is run by Pamela Moore and Alan Stafford, both from Kildare, who had been dreaming with opening their own coffee shop for a while. They told locals newspaper the Leinster Leader that Square Coffee is not a traditional café in the sense that it aims to become also a social and retail space.
“We want to encourage social interaction while you are in with us, whether that be small talk about the weather or an in-depth conversation about the awesome coffee we serve or about the specially sourced craft, design and art that we showcase”, they told the newspaper.
They also believe in sustainability and supporting local producers and fair trade suppliers. Their takeaway cups are fully compostable and their ethically sourced beans come from PS Coffee Roasters in Naas.
They’ve offer a good selection of healthy treats, including gluten free treats as well as other homemade, artisan goodies.
Square Coffee’s is open daily, Monday to Friday from 7:30 am to 6:00 pm, Saturday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm and Sundays from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm.
