Food Meets Art as Syrias Vibes Launches ‘The Artist’s Cookbook’ to Raise Funds Syria and Iraq

A new book featuring 100 Irish and International artists sharing their combined love of food and art will go on sale for charity this week. Syrias Vibes will launch The Artist’s Cookbook with an event in one of Dublin’s coolest spaces – Airbnb’s European Headquarters. The initiative aims to help raise funds to support displaced people in Syria and Iraq.

This unique book (believed to be a first of its kind around the world) features 100 Irish and International artists sharing a creative recipe and artwork to illustrate it. The launch takes place on Friday, 18th August from 7.00pm at Airbnb’s European Headquarters at Grand Canal Dock in Dublin, followed by an after party in nearby Charlotte Quay.

Funds raised from the launch will go towards the Psychology Support Programme in the Bajed Kandala IDP camp in Iraq and to support the doctors and ambulances at Heyva Sor a Kurd (or The Kurdish Red Crescent), who are now on the front line at Raqqa in Syria. The Psychology Support Programme ensures women and children – all survivors of the Yazidi genocide of 2014 – receive regular therapy, medication and support.

Admission to the launch of The Artist’s Cookbook is free and guests in attendance will get a copy of the book. At the launch, Airbnb’s top chefs will provide a selection of delicious canapes, with plenty of music and refreshments including wine and beer from Rascals Brewing Co.

A raffle is also planned with prizes including some of the original art from the book, such as a Pato Cassinoni painting worth €1,500, vouchers from some of Dublin’s most popular restaurants including Charlotte Quay, Coppinger Row and Dublin Pizza Co, plus limited-edition artworks and Syrias Vibes T-shirts.

The Artist’s Cookbook is available to pre-order from www.scoopfoundation.com for €24.99 (RRP €29.99) and includes book, post and packaging and a donation to the Syrias Vibes campaign.

The event is being organized by Dublin brothers Andy and Calvin Sweeney, who set up Syrias Vibes last year. Calvin is currently in Iraq volunteering at the Bajed Kandala camp (where the charity runs a Psychology programme) while Andy is coordinating the launch event in Dublin: “We’re really looking forward to the launch of The Artist’s Cookbook this week” said Andy.

“This project has taken over two years to come together and the launch event is the culmination of a lot of people’s hard work and dedication. It’s happening in Airbnb’s Dublin headquarters and there’ll be free food, wine, beers and a complimentary copy of the cookbook for all attendees. We’re looking forward to a jam-packed evening of great food, creativity and drinks and would encourage as many people as possible to come along, as it’s all for an excellent cause. It’s a free event and people can register by emailing info@scoopfoundation.com.”
