Bring the Whole Pack to Ireland’s Most Dog Friendly Pub to Celebrate the Year of the Dog

This 16th of February the celebration of Chinese New Year marks the beginning of the Year of the Dog, an animal known for its loyalty, kindness and friendliness. Dog lovers in Ireland have been on a roll as last year saw a change in the regulations making it easier now for pubs and restaurants to allow canine guests, and if there is a place that excels at making your four-legged friends feel at ease while you enjoy your evening, is The Draft House Gastropub in Strandhill, Co. Sligo.

The place opened in 2015 and has quickly become a favourite of locals and visitors alike. Humans can enjoy some of the finest craft beers from Ireland and beyond as well as great cocktails and hearty and delicious dishes while dogs can relax in snug kennels in their modern and super pet-friendly “dog parking.”

At The Draft House, it’s always the year of the dog: they can stay in comfortable private kennels which have a video link so their two-legged pack can keep an eye on them while enjoying lunch, a pint or warming hot whiskey. The dogs are well looked after with snug beds and fresh water. Each owner is given a tablet PC linked to their dog’s kennel which is locked for security.

Strandhill is a popular amongst dog walkers and there’s no wonder why the Draft House kennels are very popular. To make them even more appealing for customers, there is no cost and booking isn’t required.

No dog? No problem! The Draft House looks after active humans too, providing hot showers free of charge for chilly surfers or hikers.
