The Taste Guide to the Galway Food Festival

This year sees the 5th annual Galway Food Festival taking place over the Easter weekend March 24th-28th. Last year over 70,000 people came from all over the country to sample the best the West had to offer.

From pop ups, food markets, food tours, demos, talks, tastings and workshops, you can really sink your teeth into the festival programme. Here are just some of our highlights.

THURSDAY MARCH 24th

Opera Chocolate Afternoon Tea at The Ardilaun Hotel 3pm-5pm

Visit the 4 Star Ardilaun Hotel to sample their new Opera themed Chocolate Afternoon Tea. Available all weekend, indulge in classic delicacies made with local artisan produce.

A Game of Rhônes at Thomas Woodberry’s 5.30pm-7.30pm

Dedicated wine specialist Thomas Woodberry’s are hosting a blind tasting of Rhône and Rhône styled wines. Which wine will come out on top in this whimsical game of Rhônes?

Cocktails & Food Pairing Through The Decades 7.30pm-9.30pm

Book your place now for this unique cocktail history lesson and find our where your favourite drinks come from. Expert mixologist Aileen Cunningham will be pairing your drinks with a great menu by Head Chef Kevin Hynes. Tickets are €25.

FRIDAY MARCH 25th

Pop Up Pincho Bar at Cava Bodega 12pm-5pm

Try the great tapas in Cava Bodega, Galway’s only restaurant dedicated to Spanish cuisine and wine. For the festival they are running a pop up Pincho bar, serving up some lovely little bites. Pinchos are €2 each, 3 for €5.

Hot Wok Ideas at the Skeff Bar & Kitchen 12.30pm-1.30pm

To launch their new Hot Wok lunch options The Skeff’s chefs will take you through how to make some simple and delicious stir-fry dishes. This is one of many free events taking place over the weekend.

Dine Aboard The Orient Express at Glenlo Abbey Hotel 6.30pm-8.30pm

This is reason enough to visit Galway. Dine in the original carriages from the Orient Express and step back in time. Booking in advance is essential €59.

Dinner with Roz Purcell at Brasserie on the Corner 7pm-10pm

Enjoy a 5 course menu derived from Roz’s recipes and meet the bestselling author of ‘Natural Born Feeder’. Tickets are €50pp.

1920’s Prohibition Party at McCambridge’s 7.30pm-11.30pm

Celebrating over 90 years in business, McCambridge’s are bringing you back to the roaring 1920s for a unique prohibition party. The event will be booze free but partners Teeling Whiskey will be making an appearance in all the dishes. Spaces are limited and tickets cost €65pp.

SATURDAY MARCH 26th

Cocktail Demo & Tasting at Martine’s of Quay Street 12pm-1pm

Resident cocktail expert Shaun Hall will be entertaining the crowd with some mixology displays and serving up some tasty concoctions. Entry is €10.

Cupping Session at Coffeewerk + Press With Five Elephant Roasters 12pm-1pm

The renowned Five Elephant Roastery is bringing the best coffees to Galway for you to taste. Ideal for novices and pros, the cupping session introduces you to some socially and environmentally responsible specialty coffees.

Sushi Masterclass at the Radisson Blu Hotel & Spa 1pm-3pm

Learn the art of sushi at a very special Sushi Master Class. Discover all the tricks of preparation while enjoying a glass of wine and then devour all your hard work. Tickets are €25 and spaces are limited.

SUNDAY MARCH 27th

Sunday Disco Brunch Biteclub at Electric 11.30am-4.30pm

Nobody does brunch like this! Embrace the Sunday disco vibes over brunch with a DJ spinning tunes and great cocktails.

Sheridans Wedding Cheese Cake Demo 12pm-1.30pm

For engaged couples who want something a little different, Sheridans cheese experts will be talking you through Wedding Cheese Cakes from design to taste and how to serve it. €5 entry.

The Art of Fermentation at Aniar 1pm-2pm

Michelin Star chef and festival chairperson JP McMahon will be hosting some talks and discussions in his award winning restaurant throughout the weekend. Catch him talking all things fermented on Easter Sunday.

MONDAY MARCH 28th

Easter Rising Centenary Lunch at The Lodge at Ashford Castle 2.30pm-5pm

Join Chef Jonathan Keane for a special 4 course Easter Rising Centenary Lunch. Celebrate the anniversary of the rising with a traditional lunch and trad music in the historical estate. €35 – book now.

An Púcán food pairing event with Kalak Irish Vodka 6.30pm-8.30pm

One of the best bars Galway has to offer, An Púcán presents the best of the west with an evening of great food and drink pairings in association with Kalak Irish Vodka. €25
