Tipperary Boutique Distillery Wins Double Gold Medal Award in San Francisco World Spirits Competition
Tipperary Boutique Distillery’s Watershed whiskey just took home the highly coveted double gold medal from the San Francisco World Spirits Competition. Watershed is a non-aged, single malt whiskey that has been cut to 47% ABV with water from the Ballindoney farm outside Clonmel where the Tipperary Boutique Distillery is situated. The spirit was launched in Ireland last August and in the US in March.
The San Francisco World Spirits Competition is one of the world’s most prestigious, created in 2000 and praised for its high level of integrity.
Jennifer Nickerson, MD of Tipperary Boutique Distillery said “We are absolutely delighted to have received this award. Being recognised at such an international level less than one year after our release of the Watershed is the stuff of dreams and a testament to the quality of our whiskey.”
About what makes Watershed unique, Jennifer explained that only six first-fill bourbon casks are chosen for each batch, carefully selected by Malt Master Stuart. “After being cut to 47% with Ballindoney fresh water, each bottle is numbered individually so that each one is special.”
Watershed whiskey tasting notes are described as a strong vanilla and sweet fruit notes on the nose, followed by hints of grain. On the palate, black pepper, vanilla fudge and just a trace of raisins. It has a smooth finish, warm and comforting, like honey on warm buttered toast.
Watershed Whiskey is priced at €59.99 and available at Celtic Whiskey Shop
